Our Mascot Is Cooler Than Your Mascot

In honor of college football regular season and conference championships being over, I want to share this picture of the real live Rameses and me taken before a UNC football game a few weeks ago. Of course I'm biased, but I seriously think UNC has the coolest mascot ever. He is absolutely precious!
Outfit Details:
Sweater and polo: Lilly Pulitzer; Jeans: Joe's; Boots: Ariat Heritage Western R-toe; Earrings: Kate Spade; Pearls: Honora; Sunnies: Kate Spade

Oh and how about the basketball team's win over #1 Michigan State last week? Go Tar Heels!!!

UNC Game Day Outfits!

Here is a handful of UNC Game Day outfit possibilities I have put together-for both warm weather and cool weather. I love to wear a dress or skirt on game day as much as possible. While tights are on option with the skirt/dress ensembles on cooler days, if it's cold enough then I have to wear my North Face jacket as well, and that takes away from the look of a cute skirt or dress.

Warmer Weather Looks:
Dress: Lilly Pulitzer Cassie Dress; Boots: Ariat Heritage Western R-Toe; Pearl Necklace and Bracelet: Spirit Pearl; Earrings: Kate Spade
Here I am modeling this outfit on a recent game day in Chapel Hill.

Printed Polo: Lilly Pulitzer; Cardigan: J.Crew Factory; Skirt: Vineyard Vines; Boots: Ariat; Earrings: Kate Spade; Bracelet: Spirit Pearl: Necklace: Honora
*If it is really warm then just omit the cardigan!

Top: Lilly Pulitzer; Skirt: Vineyard Vines; Boots: Ariat; Earrings: Kate Spade; Necklace: Honora; Bracelet: Spirit Pearl
*This outfit probably wouldn't be the best for a super warm game day, but would be perfect for a mild day!

Cooler Weather Looks:
Sweater: Lilly Pulitzer; Jeans: 7 For All Mankind; Boots: Ariat; Earrings: Kate Spade; Necklace: Spirit Pearl

Top and Scarf: Lilly Pulitzer; Jeans: 7 For All Mankind; Boots: Ariat; Bracelet: Spirit Pearl; Earrings: Kate Spade

FYI- Anything in the shade "Worth Blue" by Lilly Pulitzer is almost a perfect match for Carolina blue! Go Heels!

One Shining Moment

So it's hard to believe another college basketball season has come and gone and the new national champions have just been crowned. Congrats to the Louisville Cardinals! One of my favorite parts of the NCAA tournament is the One Shining Moment tribute video shown at the conclusion of the title game. Although it is a tribute to the new champion it is also a montage of memorable moments throughout the entire three weeks of the tournament. I am not ashamed to admit that it always make me tear up, and the 2009 version commemorating UNC's most recent championship  never fails to give me chills. Four years later, I still enjoy watching it from time to time and reliving one of the most exciting nights of my life. Until UNC wins another title, the 2009 edition of One Shining Moment will always hold a special place in my heart.

Featured Outfit: St. Patrick's Day

Hope everyone had a fun St. Patrick's Day! I wore two different outfits with the same green Lilly cardigan during the course of the day: one for church in the morning and the other for the rest of the day.
First up is my outfit for church:
Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer; Camisole: LOFT; Skirt: Banana Republic Factory Store; Belt: Banana Republic Factory Store; Shoes: Bandolino; Necklace: JCrew Factory; Earrings: Kate Spade; Cocktail Ring: Kate Spade

And here's what I work for the remainder of the day while watching basketball and going to a party:
Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer; Camsiole: LOFT; Scarf: Lilly Pulitzer; Jeans: Citizens of Humanity Avedon Skinny; Cowgirl Boots: Ariat Heritage Western R-toe; Earrings: Kate Spade; Cocktail Ring: Kate Spade; Bracelet: Spirit Pearl
Here's a close-up of my UNC Spirit Pearl bracelet. I had to add this to my green outfit to show some UNC spirit on Selection Sunday, and to cheer them on in the ACC Tournament Championship (just wish the outcome of that one could've been different!)

And here is a close-up of the festive goodies I brought to the party, along with my "Kiss Me I'm A Tar Heel" t-shirt that I used as dessert table decoration:
Recipe for covered pretzels is here (just substitute green m&m's)
Recipe for Lucky Charms treats: See last week's post
Green congo squares: I added green food coloring to a recipe from Ma Fox's Cookbook (an old cookbook my family has)

Featured Outfit: Go Tar Heels!

In honor of March Madness starting so soon, I need to share an outfit that showcases my Tar Heel spirit. When UNC has a big game, I like to wear Carolina Blue even if I'm not going to the game. (Which is usually the case during basketball season since tickets are sooo hard to come by.) I wore this particular outfit this past Saturday, but unfortunately it didn't bring much luck during that painful game against Duke. I'm hoping my boys will have a chance to redeem themselves in the ACC Tournament this weekend. Nevertheless, it's still a great UNC game day outfit, regardless of the outcome!

Top: Vineyard Vines; Jeans: Citizens of Humanity Avedon Skinny; Shoes: Tory Burch tan Reva flats; Earrings: Kate Spade; Cocktail Ring: Kate Spade; Pearls: Spirit Pearl

GO TAR HEELS!!!

We are just two hours from tip-off of round one of UNC vs. Duke, the 2013 edition. In my biased opinion, this is the greatest rivalry in all of sports-two schools eight miles apart, both with a storied basketball tradition. Tonight my Tar Heels are the underdog, but anything can happen when these two teams meet! I'm hoping and praying for a Carolina victory! And regardless of the outcome, it's always a  GDTBATH!!! (Great Day To Be A Tar Heel)

My breakfast this morning!

Books are written about this rivalry!

Make that 6-time National Champs! (This Wheaties box was pre-2009)

Our mascot is cooler than your mascot! (unfortunately he can't come to basketball games, just football)

GO TAR HEELS!!!

Game Day Style

This past Saturday I attended my first football game of the season to watch UNC beat East Carolina, which was a much needed win for my Tar Heels! I wore one of my favorite outfits for a game day in Chapel Hill: my Lilly Pulitzer Balletta dress in Skye Blue Exbloomsion (from the Resort 2010 collection.) It is hard to find dresses that are a perfect match for Carolina blue but the colors in this print are close enough. I actually saw someone else at the game wearing this print in a shift dress.
I accessorized with a pearl necklace, my Kate Spade metropolitan pearl studs, vintage Ray-Bans with Lilly croakies, and a UNC face tattoo.
Better view of my face tattoo. This tattoo is actually a sticker-you don't need any water to apply and it peels right off at the end of the day.

Cute and comfortable shoes are a must for game day. I wore my silver Jack Rogers since they are the most broken-in of my Jacks and I prefer them if I know I'm going to be doing a bit of walking. Jacks are definitely my favorite shoes to complete a warm-weather game day ensemble. I would love to one day own a pair of these Carolina blue Jacks from their College Colors Collection:
Cowgirl boots are my other favorite shoe option for game day, but on a September afternoon in the 80s it was just a little too hot for them.

I have two great purse options for game day-a Longchamp Le Pliage that is super close to Carolina blue and my Vineyard Vines classic UNC tote. This past Saturday I carried my Longchamp.
Longchamp Le Pliage
Vineyard Vines Classic Tote

I also had very spirited nails for game day thanks to Revlon making a polish that is pretty much an exact match to Carolina blue. It is #410 and is called "Dreamer." It doesn't apply as smoothly as my OPI polishes but it is still a great option for game day.

So that completes my outfit for this past game day. I will do another post that features one of my favorite game day outfits for when the weather gets cooler.
Go Heels!
