Pretty Peplums

Peplums are another popular fashion trend for Spring 2012. Here are a few favorite examples of this trend:

Lilly Pulitzer Maybell Dress in Worth Blue Swizzle Stripe. The blue stripes give this Lilly dress a nautical feel. I love how Lilly incorporates the peplum trend into this piece while still maintaining that classic Lilly look that can be enjoyed for years to come. That is why I love Lilly Pulitzer so much-it never goes out of style!

Lilly Pulitzer Maybell Dress in Azalea Pink Pinwheel Embroidery. This is my favorite peplum piece-I love the classic silhouette, bold pink color, and the embroidery detail. The only thing this dress is lacking is a place in my closet!

Pim + Larkin Eyelet Peplum Top via Piperlime. The peplum trend doesn't stop with dresses. This white eyelet top incorporates the peplum trend yet still has a very classic look.

What peplum pieces are y'all admiring this spring? Have you added any to your closet?

Same Blog, New Name!

Hey there-hope y'all have had a great weekend. I decided to change the name of my blog to something more catchy and less blah. So the blog formally known as "Colorful and Classy" is now "Pearls Go With Everything." The new web address for this blog is www.pearlsgowitheverything.blogspot.com. Be sure to update your favorites/bookmark folder because the old URL will not redirect you to the blog. The mantra "pearls go with everything" is one of my basic fashion philosophies so I figured it was an appropriate name for my blog :) Enjoy the new name and more posts on preppy style etc!

Derby Dresses!

No, I will not be going to the Kentucky Derby this Saturday. I would love to go someday, although for the fashion rather than the horse races. I can always find an excuse to wear a Lilly dress, but there's just something about the idea of wearing a Lilly dress plus a big floppy hat to the Derby that sounds extra appealing. So in honor of Kentucky Derby coming up this weekend I am going to share a few sundresses that would be great to wear to the actual Derby, or even a Derby-themed party.

Lilly Pulitzer Brynne Dress in Worth Blue Sweet Daisy Eyelet
Very simple and classy. Love the eyelet material and the ruffle at the top!

Lilly Pulitzer Aleesa Dress in Hotty Pink Petal Pusher Lace
I love the pink color of course and the all-over lace detail! Plus the cut-out in the back of the dress (pictured below) adds a nice unexpected touch!

Lilly Pulitzer Isabel Dress
Seersucker is always appropriate for the Derby, and the embroidered horseshoes make this lovely halter dress even more so. Plus I love the lace applique detail at the neck!

Lilly Pulitzer Adeline Dress in Worth Blue May Flowers
This is a good option if you want to go for a classic printed Lilly dress. This shift style silhouette is the same as the seersucker dress I am wearing in my previous featured outfit post.

Lilly Pulitzer Ricci Shift
I had to include a classic printed Lilly shift in my Derby Dress line-up. I especially love the cut-outs at the neckline.

Vineyard Vines Churchill Dot Dress in Blue Blazer
Although I first think of Lilly Pulitzer when it comes to Kentucky Derby attire, Vineyard Vines has been declared the Official Style of the Kentucky Derby and has created a Kentucky Derby Collection. This polka dot dress was featured in the May 2012 issue of InStyle. It is also available in Bermuda Pink, pictured below.

Vineyard Vines Sashay Carolyn Dress in Harbor Cay
Another piece from the Vineyard Vines Kentucky Derby Collection. The whale logo belt adds a lovely additional touch to a classic strapless seersucker dress.

Of course you need a big hat to go with your Derby Dress. Although I don't own one (yet) my personal favorite is the Marley Lilly Monogrammed Derby Hat. You can customize with different hat outline and thread colors.

(I actually have this hat)

Once you've picked out a dress and hat, shoes and jewelry finish the ensemble. For jewelry pearls in your ears and around your neck (depending on the cut of your dress) will suffice. For shoes, Jack Rogers metallic Navajo sandals are the way to go!

Add good friends, a mint julep, and a smile and you should be good to go!

Adeline Seersucker Dress

Since I had multiple people mention how much they liked the Lilly Pulitzer Adeline dress in my Seriously Seersucker post, I thought I would post a picture of me wearing it on Easter Sunday 2012. This dress is a classic and if it is on your wish list I highly recommend adding it to your closet.

Bargain Alert: Lilly Pulitzer on Rue La La

One of my favorite ways to get great clothes for a great price is through Rue La La, a members-only sale site. Each day features different designer boutiques, which open at 11:00am and remain open for 48 hours. Sale items are from past seasons, and are usually at least 50% off original retail prices. All merchandise is first-quality new with tags and in original packaging. I joined almost two years ago when I heard that Lilly Pulitzer was periodically available on Rue La La and ever since have gotten some great deals through this wonderful site. It can sometimes be a great way to find pieces from past Lilly seasons that you regret not buying originally. So far I have only purchased from the Lilly boutiques on Rue La La but other boutiques I have seen include Jack Rogers, Kate Spade, Ariat, and Honora Pearls. The best part about Rue La La is that it is FREE to join. You can click here for your personal invitation to join Rue La La. Lilly Pulitzer is available right now in the Palm Beach Style: Spring Brights boutique and there is still some great stuff left, including the shift dress I featured in this past week's Friday Favorites post. Happy Shopping!

Friday Favorites

Got this idea from For All Things Lovely, a fashion blog I've recently started following. I'm pretty sure I've seen other blogs do it as well, and I like it so it will be a regularly featured column on Colorful and Classy :) So here goes Edition 1:

Scarf:
Lilly Pulitzer Murfee Scarf in Green Bean Amani Children's Foundation. I adore Lilly scarves and this might be my favorite that I own. This print is absolutely precious-I love the bright colors and and the adorable lions, giraffes, elephants, zebras, and rhinos in the print. The silk/cashmere blend is lightweight enough that it can still be worn in the Spring before it gets too incredibly hot outside. But best of all this scarf was designed to benefit the Amani Children's Foundation, which I mentioned in my Shop For A Cause post several months ago. At first this scarf was only available at Palm Avenue Via shop locations but it is now available here on the Lilly website.

Shift Dress:
Lilly Pulitzer Jacqueline Dress Embroidered in Sea Breeze Blue. This is from the Spring 2011 collection. As much as I love my Lilly prints I love the classic look of this solid blue dress with white embroidery. The lining is a tangerine color and shows through the cut-outs in the embroidery which adds a nice touch. Whether a solid or print Lilly is all about the little details! This is a great dress for showers, parties, weddings, and luncheons.

Shorts:
J.Crew khaki chino short 5" inseam. These are a staple in my spring/summer wardrobe. I recommend getting them at the outlet-same shorts for a lower price. Currently available at the J.Crew Factory website if you don't live near an outlet.

Cocktail Dress:
Lilly Pulitzer Bowen Dress in Black After-Party Embroidery. From the Fall 2011 collection. The gold detail on the skirt is even prettier in person. I have worn it to a rehearsal dinner and an engagement party so far.

Bargain Buy:
Old Navy printed tank. Got this on sale a few months ago. Super cute and works great under a cardigan for work and alone with shorts or skinny jeans for outside of the office.

Jeans:
Citizens of Humanity Avedon Skinny Jeans in Satellite wash. I featured these in an earlier post but had to mention them again because they are my favorite pair of jeans. The Citizens of Humanity Facebook page recently pictured Miley Cyrus wearing these exact jeans-not sure if I should be flattered or not...regardless of your opinion of Miley Cyrus she does have good taste in jeans because these are so classy and comfortable! Dessert:
Self-serve frozen yogurt with toppings.

I hope that y'all have an absolutely lovely weekend!!! It's supposed to be gorgeous! Glad Spring weather is back!
